Scott Morrison said he regrets saying the vaccine rollout was “not a race” and takes responsibility for the rollout problems, promising to find solutions fast.

The rollout program is 2 months behind schedule, with only 14.5% of eligible Australians fully vaccinated and 3 states currently in lockdown. 

 

Water Shortages in Khuzestan Turn Deadly

Six nights of protests in Iran’s Khuzestan over water shortages have turned deadly, with three civilians and one police officer killed.

Oil-rich Khuzestan has faced water problems for decades and its large Sunni Arab population has long complained of being marginalised in predominantly Shia Iran.

This year has been especially difficult for the province due to extreme temperatures and droughts leading to widespread blackouts and water shortages.

 

China rejects orchestrating cyber-attacks

Global tensions with China have risen this morning after Chinese officials flatly rejected the premise of orchestrating a cyber-attack earlier this year that hacked into a microsoft server- exposing confidential government and business emails from the US, New Zealand, The United Kingdom, Japan and Canada. 

World Leaders confronted China in hopes to convince Chinese Authorities to implement more preventative measures against cyber-attacks, however those measures look unlikely.

 

Scott Morrison faces criticisms for handling of COVID-19 Crisis

Federal Opposition Leader of the Labor Party, Anthony Albanese, has criticized Prime Minister, Scott Morrison for “going missing whenever there’s a crisis”. 

Critics argue that whenever an issue arises, Scott Morrison conveniently stops making press conferences in attempts to reduce pressure on the Government's handling of said crisis   . 

Morrison is yet to comment on South Australia’s lockdown, Victoria’s lockdown extension and New South Wales’ current 5 week lockdown.

 

Christian Porter Defamation case costings

A legal challenge that saw Christian Porter's lawyer removed from his defamation case against the ABC could cost him and his former barrister up to half-a-million-dollars.

The former attorney-general took action against the ABC over a story about an unnamed cabinet minister accused of an alleged historical sexual assault.

Mr Porter later revealed himself to be the subject of the allegations but denied any wrongdoing.

 

Brisbane on the brink of hosting the 2032 Olympic Games

In a matter of hours, Brisbane will find out if it's been successful in its bid to be the host city of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic games.

If the Queensland capital gets the backing of the International Olympic Committee, it'll be the third time an Australian city has hosted an Olympic Games after Melbourne in 1956 and, Sydney in 2000.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is in Tokyo for the final pitch, which will be delivered in front of the IOC later today.

 

Debate over the usage of shark nets

Gold Coast conservationists are sparking public debates on the usage of shark nets after the release of a highly anticipated documentary calling for changes to our shark control measures, which haven’t been altered in 59 years. 

"A lot of people think shark nets are a barrier. They're not — they're a fishing device." said film director, Andre Borell.

The fisheries minister, Mark Furner, responded to the claims saying they had no plans to remove the equipment from Queensland Controlled waters.

 

Beloved caravan park set to close after 64 years of service

Newmarket Gardens, an inner-city caravan park, is set to close its doors after 64 years of service later this year.

Owner of the park, Robyn Wright, told 4zzz that they, “were very reluctant to close the park” and that “there was no 1 dominant reason for closing the park”.

Wright also said that she didn’t realise the park would generate so much interest and that it’s, “really hitting home about what a difference the park has made in people’s lives”. 

The park will be shutting its doors in August after the Ekka season.

 

South Australia COVID-19 Restrictions

South Australia has now implemented Australia’s harshest restrictions, enforcing a 2.5km travel limit from your home, whilst Victoria maintains it’s 5km restriction and NSW with a 10km limit. 

This comes after South Australian Health Officials recorded their 5th case recorded in 2 days and the exposure of the highly contagious deltra strain.
