Teen's artwork to become face of shopping bags

A 13-year-old Annerley resident has been chosen as one of the artists to design a chiller bag for a National Supermarket.

Abbey Whalley is one of six students to win the design competition, which was run to raise awareness against single-use plastic bags. Her bags will be printed nationally and sold to millions of customers for two dollars fifty for a limited time.

A radio broadcaster in China has been arrested under a colonial era sedition law, making him the second journalist arrested under the law in the last 6 months.

Wan Yiu-sing, who goes by the name of "Giggs", hosted programmes discussing anti-government demonstrations and had previously advertised for donations to support young people from Hong Kong who have fled to Taiwan.

Public forum in discussion of two new Brisbane footbridges

A public forum to discuss the proposal for two new footbridges in Brisbane will be held in the coming weeks.

 

The forum hosted by Greens Councillor, Jonathan Sri and Local Greens MPs, Amy MacMahon and Michael Berkman. They are seeking feedbacks from elected representatives and local residents about the preferred locations of these two footbridges.

 

Affordable housing launching in South Brisbane

A local Not-for-profit organisation is allocating apartments to young people in Brisbane as vacancy rates hit 10-year low.

 

Not-For-Profit organisation Brisbane Housing Company is allocating five of their 32 apartments specifically to young people living in transitional housing supported by Brisbane Youth Service, with the aim to move them into long-term homes.

 

New Queensland learning license implementation

Getting drivers license in Queensland will require more rigorous training following changes to the provisional license test, as increasing fatal crashes amongst P-plate drivers.

 

Starting from 29th of March, Queensland P-plate exams are being upgraded with an added-on hazard-perception test, in an attempt to assess drivers' reactions to dangers on the road.

 

Inflated discrimination against LGBTI+ Australians

Respect Victoria has released a new report which has revealed the discrimination and inequalities faced by LGBTIQ+ Australians were grossly inflated during the pandemic.

 

Young people have had to move back home as a result of COVID -19 and consequently some had to go back into the closet, according to General Manager at the Centre for Family Research and Evaluation, Beth McCann.
