Facebook has banned the Myanmar military from Facebook and Instagram, following its coup earlier this month. 

The tech company says the risks of human rights abuses and the Myanmar military violating Facebook’s rules once again are too great.. 

Facebook has previously come under fire for platforming fake accounts spreading pro-military propaganda in 2018.

Isaac Regional Council has unanimously passed a motion condemning the handling of the Carmichael mine by owners, Bravus, formerly known as Adani. 

The motion cites Bravus’ non-compliance with agreement obligations, and mistreatment of local land-owners.

Wangan and Jagalingou spokesperson Adrian Burragubba  released a statement commending the Council for standing up for its constituents, but requested that it show equal support for the traditional owners and custodians of the land.

Construction of a solar farm in Ipswich is set to start by the end of the year with an estimated 100 jobs to be created.

The $80million facility was approved by the Ipswich city council last year

Division 4 Councillor Kate Kunzelmann says the project will provide more opportunities for the region. 

“This is a fantastic opportunity to help grow Ipswich’s renewable energy sector and drive a more sustainable future for our community,” Cr Kunzelmann said.

The Queensland Law Reform Commission has requested a second extension of time to present a draft bill legalising voluntary euthanasia to Parliament, expecting to surpass its deadline of May this year. 

Following Queensland Labor’s promise during the state election to introduce legislation for voluntary assisted dying by February this year, the Commission has been drafting the bill for nearly a year. Voluntary assisted dying, or euthanasia, is currently permitted in Victoria and the Northern Territory.

Papua New Guinea’s first Prime minister has died of pancreatic cancer at the age of eighty four. 

Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare  was known as the father of the nation, leading Papua New Guinea to independence from Australia in 1975 at the age of just 39.

Sir Michael’s career in Parliament spanned for forty nine years, acting as Prime Minister for a total of seventeen years over four terms.

The controversial news media bargaining code, which would allow media organisations to sign up to be paid for their content appearing on social media and search engines, passed the Senate yesterday.

It comes after talks between the Government and Facebook saw the bill amended that will require Treasurer Josh Frydenburg to consider whether the platform has made a contribution to Australia's news sphere.  

Facebook reinstated the ability to share news on their platform this morning; after removing news content in protest of the proposed laws.

Brisbane is the frontrunner in the race to host the 2032 Olympic games after the International Olympic committee made the city its preferred candidate. 

The decision won’t be confirmed until July, before the Tokyo 2021 games.   

Premier Anastasia Palaszczuk says the Olympic Committee is looking for cities that have existing venues, with Brisbane already having eighty five percent of necessary stadiums and sports halls.

"The Olympic committee are looking for existing structures," Ms Palaszczuk said.
