Fire breaks out at Browns Plains unit
A fire in Browns Plains on Brisbane’s southside has destroyed a unit block after it broke out this morning.
Ten crews were dispatched to the scene on Myola Street at 4:00am, and the blaze was under control in 30 minutes, according to emergency services.
Two people are unaccounted for, according to authorities, however details or identity are not yet released.
New tech to deeper understand how animals see
The University of Queensland’s scientists have developed an ultraviolet ‘television’ display, aiming to help researchers better understand how animals see the world.
Standard monitors have been used previously, but none have been able to test ultraviolet vision - the ability to see wavelengths of light shorter than 400 nanometres.
The technology will help unveil the secrets of sights in all sorts of animals, such as fish and birds, according to Dr Samuel Powell from the Queensland Brain Institute’s Marshal Lab.

A third woman has come forward to allege she was sexually assaulted in 2016 by the same political staffer accused of assaulting Brittany Higgins inside Parliament House.

Man who named planet after Brisbane set to retire
A man who had a planet named after Brisbane is set to retire, after 36 years at the popular Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium at Mt Coot-Tha.
The planet, 5277 Brisbane, was named thanks to Planetarium curator, Mark Rigby, who approached the International Astronomical Union in 2009.
Rigby has served as curator since 2002.
Traces of COVID found in Kawana sewage
Fragments of SARS-CoV-2 were detected in the Kawana sewage catchment on Saturday.

Texas citizens face water issues
Power has been restored to citizens in Texas after unprecedentedly frigid temperatures, but millions face the struggle of finding safe water.
The lack of power has seen many water pipes freeze, the number of systems that are reporting water issues has increased, according to Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Toby Baker.
Baker says water issues are impacting about 14.3 million residents out of a total population of around 29 million.
