Paul Kelly: Nature

- Deep into his fourth decade as a recording artist, Paul Kelly’s stature in Australian music only grows as time goes on. Last year’s release Life Is Fine was his twenty-third solo album but first number one. New release Nature has repeated the feat, debuting this week at the top of the charts.

Dopplereffekt: Athanatos

- Dopplereffekt are set to drop a new EP titled Athanatos, their fourth release for Berlin label Leisure System. Whereas their previous album Cellular Automata reflected a world dominated by mobile phones, Athanatos (meaning immortal in Greek) explores the genetic conditions and chromosomal influences defining mortality.

Body Type: Body Type

- Indie rock is a very saturated market just at the minute and with the volume and range of new music coming out it can be hard to stand out and make an impact. However, Sydney quartet Body Type aren't about gimmicks, their self-titled debut EP manages without having to rely on anything besides their raw talent at songwriting, clever lyrics and laidback, fun tunes.

Uboa: The Sky May Be

- Oh bless, there must be something quite wrong with me, but Melbourne’s Uboa takes me to my happy place. It feels especially wrong because as the artist behind it, Xandra Metcalfe, explicitly states “I only take inspiration from things that immediately affect me...various trans issues that do not get airtime in music in particular - trans subcultures, transmisogyny / transphobia, medication, passing, sterilisation, suicide and depression, isolation. A lot of the stuff about mental illness - depression, psychosis, anxiety etc.

Ross Geller Lookalike Steals Beer

A call was put out by British police on Tuesday with photos of a man who had stolen beer from a store, which stirred up some seriously hilarious commentary.

The thief just so happened to look like Ross Geller from “Friends”.

The post attracted more than 150,000 comments, forcing actor David Schwimmer to produce an alibi to prove that no, Ross Geller did not steal beer from a convenience store in Blackpool, England.

Banksy Under the Hammer

Several Banksy Works went under the hammer on Wednesday at a Paris auction house, but none of the works auto-destructed upon purchase like the last auction.

People were shocked when Banksy’s “Girl with Balloon” shredded itself moments after fetching $1.8 million dollars, however experts say the stunt only added value to his future works at auction.

Wednesday's auction did not disappoint, with many items fetching above expected prices.

Feeling Unsafe at Music Festivals a Concern

Only 29 percent of women ‘always’ feel safe at music festivals, according to an online survey of 500 Australians on their perceptions of safety and sexual violence at such events.

Crowded spaces, such as mosh pits, were most frequently identified as sites of sexual violence, as perpetrators were able to create a level of ambiguity and disappear into the crowd—making it difficult for someone to do anything about an incident.

No More Gender on Birth Certificates?

Tasmania could become the first state to scrap gender from birth certificates, the issue will be debated in parliament next month.

The sex of a baby would no longer be recorded under new legislation.

The Greens are supporting this, fighting for a person’s right to change the gender on their birth certificate without undergoing invasive surgery.

Transgender activists say the gender requirement causes unnecessary distress, and this new bill would allow people to dictate their own gender as they grow up.
