Hospital patient notes found by passer-by

Queensland Health is investigating how a passer-by found confidential patient handover notes from the Redcliffe Hospital.

A Hospital spokesperson says the notes found were not copies of patient clinical records, and the patients whose information was included in the notes have been contacted.

The notes were returned to the hospital and it is believed the passer-by was the only person to see the information.

UQ research student facing extradition and conspiracy charges from US Government

A UQ postgraduate student is facing extradition to the US after allegedly exporting banned equipment to the Iranian Government. 

The student is facing 6 charges in the States, which would see him spend at least twenty years behind bars. 

He is expected to apply for bail in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today. 

Greens MP to hold emergency meeting on Fig Tree Pocket development

Greens MP for Maiwar, Michael Berkman, is holding an emergency community meeting regarding a property developer’s bid to bulldoze over 200 trees in a Fig Tree Pocket forest.

The development on Jesmond Road has sparked outrage from local residents who say natural wildlife should be protected above over development. 

Mr Berkman’s community meeting will take place on 21 September, in the first term MP’s electorate office in Indooroopilly. More details are available at his Facebook page.

Scott Morrison facing threat to parliamentary majority

Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s parliamentary majority could be at threat if Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton is made to face the High Court. 

Labor unsuccessfully attempted to refer Mr Dutton to the High Court in August, but it’s reported a second go could see the support from Government MPs.

Following calls from former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to refer Mr Dutton over his personal financial interests, a second motion is expected to be introduced next week. 

Morrison apologises over Fatman Scoop tweet

The PM has apologised for a parody video posted on his social media accounts after discovering the explicit nature of the song included in the video. 

The 11-second clip was posted to Instagram, Twitter and Facebook yesterday and showed the parliament raising their hands to 1999 track “Be Faithful” by Fatman Scoop.

While the clip has now been deleted, it is still easily accessible via Twitter.

World’s Richest Man Pledges $2 billion to charity

A positive story this morning - the world’s richest man, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, will pledge to $2 billion, of his estimated $163 billion to charity. 

Bezos made the announcement on Twitter after asking for suggestions on how to spend his fortune for good. 

The billionaire says the the donations will go towards non-profit organisations helping homeless families and towards a network of new, non-profit, pre-schools in low-income communities. 

LGBTIQ supporters dragged from concert in China

A British pop star’s show in Shanghai saw young fans forcibly dragged from their seats by security. 

Singer, Dua Lipa, expressed solidarity with fans who were allegedly removed by security for waving flags in support of LGBT rights. 

Homosexuality is not illegal in China but has been increasingly censored by the Communist Party. 

Labor Candidate involved in CCC investigation

Labor’s Candidate for the north-Brisbane seat Petrie, is under a corruption investigation over a 20 million dollar deal involving the Moreton Bay Regional Council. 

The council’s Manager of Strategy and Engagement, Corrinne Mulholland is said to be closely associated with the deal, and has faced criticism from opposition for remaining in her role while campaigning for the seat.
