Billion dollar cost of migraines
According to a new report, migraines are costing the Australian economy $35.7 billion dollars a year.
With 4.9 million Australians affected by migraines, the Deloitte report shows they could be losing up to more than $27,000 a year due to the condition.
Sydney-based neurologist, Dr Karl Ng, considers the figures “quite confronting” and believes those who experience migraines are not receiving adequate treatment.
Chinese celebrity streamer detained
China has detained a major live-streaming celebrity after she was videoed being disrespectful to the national anthem.
Yang Kaili is facing 15 days in detention after using the streaming platform Huya to mock the national anthem.
Shanghai police called Kaili’s actions ‘disrespectful to the dignity of the national anthem’.
Indian foreign minister filing for defamation
Indian foreign minister MJ Akbar has filed a defamation suit against a journalist accusing him of sexual harassment.
Journalist Priya Ramani is one of ten women accusing Akbar of sexual assault and said she is ‘deeply disappointed’ by the action.
Akbar’s lawsuit comes amidst widespread protests for his resignation.

Historic Brisbane school engulfed by fire
A fire on Brisbane’s East has left a heritage registered school destroyed.
Morningside State School was fully engulfed this morning, and has since been declared an emergency area.
While the fire is under control now, the blaze is currently being treated as suspicious.
BCC slammed for poor disability access
The Brisbane City Council has come under fire for negligence after a wheelchair-bound resident was bogged in mud, while attempting to navigate around footpath construction.
Ellen Grove resident Karen Green came to the resident’s aid when she spotted them driving down Grand Avenue in Forest Lake.
Inclusion Moves spokesman Geoff Trappett slammed the council’s disability access, claiming there may as well be a “brick wall” placed there.
First Nations’ People to protest Beetaloo fracking
Traditional indigenous owners are planning to travel to Sydney to protest Origin Energy’s decision to frack their land.
Traditional owners from the Beetaloo Basin area plan to tell the company they do not have permission to frack the land for gas, despite giving previous approval.
Alawa traditional owner Naomi Wilfred said the prior consent was not ‘ free’ or ‘informed’.
PM open to Aus embassy in Jerusalem
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said he’s open to moving the Australian embassy from Israeli capital Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, recognising the city as the legitimate capital.
The UN rejected Israel’s claim to Jerusalem as its capital in a non-binding resolution last year, which was disregarded by US President Donald Trump.
Under new Middle Eastern Policy, Morrison is expected to deepen defence ties with Israel, and to vote “no” tomorrow on a UN resolution recognising the Palestinian Authority as chair of the G77.
Harvard accused of higher standards for Asian students
Harvard University has gone to trial over alleged discrimination against students of Asian origin during admissions selection.
Harvard denied these claims but has defended its use of broader selection criteria which looks at factors other than academic excellence to build a diverse cohort.
The trial started on Monday in Boston and is expected to last three weeks.
Saudi Arabia to take responsibility for journalist death
In an upcoming report, Saudi Arabia will reportedly admit Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed during an interrogation gone wrong, according to CNN.
The network said the report is subject to change, however it will likely conclude the operation did not have government clearance.
Khashoggi had recently entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey on October 2nd, and has not been seen since, prompting global outrage.
