US and South Korea to announce end of military drills

The United States and South Korea will reportedly end their large-scale military drills according to news agency yonhap.

The suspension will  likely only affect major joint exercises, not routine military training, with a provision the large drills would restart if North Korea fails to denuclearise.

The reports came after the Singapore Summit where President Trump and North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un agreed to end “war games” which left both South Korean and US officials stunned.

Tangents: New Bodies

- Jamming is one of the most intuitive forms of music, just taking that urge to let your noises flow out and connect with others; libidinal and natural and when it comes together, so satisfying. It’s a musical comfort food.

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever: Hope Downs

- As Aussie as a peeling sunburn or a the remnants of a melted Cornetto sticky between your fingers, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever follow up 2017’s French Press EP with debut LP Hope Downs. They’re the Australiana version of The Strokes, had Julien Casablancas been a surf instructor on the side, or an answer to Real Estate who do nine weet-bix for breakfast before heading out on stage.

DEN: Deep Cell

- Sydney’s Den are a gothic industrial punk band who are reconnecting with and revitalising the aesthetics of the genre's mainstream peak while engaging with the aesthetics of the more widely reinvigorated hardcore punk scene. Den play dark and heavy music that could be characterised as hardcore punk adorned with a heavy dose of gothic theatre.

Melody's Echo Chamber: Bon Voyage

- Last year, Melody Prochet was involved in a serious accident which lead to her experiencing a brain aneurysm and broken vertebrae which hospitalised her for several months. Given how uncertain her future looked only a year ago, it’s a relief that 2018 brings us the sophomore Melody’s Echo Chamber album, Bon Voyage. On her debut record, Melody collaborated with Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker.

Sophie: Oil Of Every Pearl's Un-Insides

- Consummate producer Sophie is releasing her official debut album through Transgressive Records. Associated with PC Music and Numbers, she has also produced music for the likes of Charli XCX, Vince Staples and Le1f. While her first album length release was a collection of singles, Oil Of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides is to my mind a flawless album experience.

Family Denied Attempt to Help Homeless

St Vincent de Paul, OneLink and Barnados have declined an offer from a migrant family in Canberra to shelter homeless people in their spare bedroom, stating that too many processes were involved.

Raj Zaveri migrated from Mumbai to Canberra in 2015 with permanent residency in search of a better life.

The family wants to give back to the Australian community, after being surprised at the number of homeless in Canberra.

Black Hole Destroys Star More Than Two Times the Size of Sun

Astronomers have taken pictures which record radio waves blasting into space and destroying a star.

Stuart Ryder from the Australian Astronomical Observatory said a super-massive black hole had engulfed the star, which was 2 to 7 times the mass of the Earth’s sun.

Astronomers said the destruction could not be seen through traditional optical telescopes, which suggest a number of other significant events in space go undetected.

International Visitors to New Zealand will be Charged a Tax

In late 2019, tourists to New Zealand will be stung with a new tax upon entering the country, but Australian citizens, people from Pacific Islands Forum countries and children under two years will be exempt.
