Female tradies on demand

A woman has compiled a website listing all female owned trade businesses in an effort to publicise female-run businesses.

After noticing a lack of publicity of female electricians, carpenters, mechanics and builders, Wendy Pinch created a directory called ‘Lady Tradies.’

Pinch hopes people who feel vulnerable such as the elderly or domestic violence victims, use the directory to access trade-qualified women.

Migrants could have to stay rural in new government plan

Under a new Turnbull government plan, migrants who come to Australia on regional skilled visas could be forced to stay in rural areas even after securing residency rights.

Multicultural minister, Alan Tudge, said that many migrants did not stay long in the region once they are granted a permanent visa, contributing to labour shortages in regional areas.

Legal challenges have been raised with the plan potentially restricting long term freedom of movement.
