QLD Premier asks PM for more reef funding

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has asked Prime Minister Scott Morrison for more Great Barrier Reef funding as UNESCO considers their ‘in danger’ world heritage list.

UNESCO’s world heritage Committee is set to discuss about how climate change might affect the great barrier reef and whether or not the Australian government should be investing more to protect it.

Annastacia Palaszczuk wrote to Scott Morrison yesterday with a list of requests, requesting for more funding for renewable energy jobs and water quality projects.

QLD and NSW border on edge of closing

Residents are awaiting a decision from Annastacia Palaszczuk to see whether or not the Queensland Premier will close Queensland borders to New South Wales.

It comes after other states impose hard border closures on New South Wales amidst the states unfolding COVID-19 outbreak.

The Premier has urged Queenslanders in any part of NSW to come home, warning if the virus continued to spread to other parts of New South Wales, she "wouldn't hesitate" to introduce a hard border.

The Zoo music venue still struggling

One of the Valley’s oldest live music venues said it’s struggling more now than during the height of Covid restrictions last year. The Zoo, which marks its thirtieth birthday next year, said the effects of snap lockdowns are felt even after restrictions are eased.

Bands who were originally scheduled to perform during the June 29th lockdown need to be rescheduled months later, meaning the venue loses both a night of performance and the opportunity to host new acts on the rescheduled dates.

The East Coast Boggie

A new dance trend has made moves on the Internet, all thanks to a Gold Coast dance duo.

Teenagers Raydyn Haeata and Summer Brereton have gone viral with their new dance style labelled the ‘East Coast Boogie’. On Tiktok their video has amassed over 4.5 million views, earning widespread praise with international dance competitions offering invitations for the pair to compete in.

Raydyn created the style by mixing the six-step dance with the European fast-paced boogie woogie.

LEGO store opens in WA shopping centre

The location for West Australia’s first LEGO-certified store has been announced for the Karrinyup Shopping Center by late October.

The decision to open between one to three stores throughout West Australia comes from a high volume of demand from the sand-groper state and retail investor Richard Facioni says that a soft-launch of its online stores showed enormous response from West Australians via social media.

Vessels waste dumping in South China Sea

A high volume of human waste has been dumped into the South China Sea over the past five years by at least 270 Chinese vessels and has caused damage to the areas’ reefs and fish populations, says Liz Derr, who heads US artificial intelligence company, Similarity Incorporated.

By using satellite imagery analysis, Derr claims that the company’s study of the South China Sea region has identified at least 236 Chinese ships which have amassed in the disputed-region, causing algae blooms and large decline in migratory tuna in the area.
