Kim Jong-Un to bolster Nuclear Capabilities after stalled talks with US

North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un has been in discussions to bolster the country’s nuclear capabilities amid stalled denuclearisation talks with the US.

The North Korean leader hosted a military meeting with the ruling Worker’s Party’s Central Military Commission which marked his first public appearance in three weeks.

North Korean state media say the meeting discussed new policies to strengthen the country’s armed forces and contain military threats from hostile forces.
 

Protests over China's National Security Law in Hong Kong

Police in Hong Kong have fired tear gas and used water cannons at protesters against Beijing's plan to impose national security laws on the city.

On Sunday protesters took to the shopping district of the city for the first time since Beijing proposed the national security laws with protestors calling the legislation an "evil law". The new law is expected to be passed May 28th however international concern has been raised with figures around the world saying the laws are a "comprehensive assault on the city's autonomy, rule of law and fundamental freedoms".

Damage to property as ex-tropical Cyclone Mangga hits WA

Homes and businesses have been damaged as ex-tropical cyclone Mangga hit the coast of Western Australia on Sunday.

The storm impacted electricity supply to more than 50,000 properties in the state as winds of more than 100 kilometres per hour were recorded in Perth, Geraldton and Dunsborough.

Bureau of Meteorology manager in Western Australia, James Ashley, says the weather formation was “dynamic and complex” after the ex-cyclone interacted with a cold front.
 

Imans Council urges Muslims to celebrate Eid al-Fitr at home

This past few days Muslims were urged by The Australian National Imams Council to celebrate Eid al-Fitr and pray from home.

The Eid prayer and occasion is usually performed by all Muslims in large congregations however due to the Coronavirus pandemic participants were required to celebrate at home with a minimum number of three people. Prime Minister Scott Morrison thanked the Muslim community earlier through the week for their effort in remaining within the Country's COVID19 regulations during this time.

Queensland Government offering sport vouches to Struggling Families

The Queensland government is offering vouchers of $150 to families who have been financially impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, in order to get children back into community sport.

As sporting clubs prepare to recommence training from the 13th of June, the vouchers will be available to families who can prove the COVID-19 financial hit.

The Queensland government will also repurpose over $50 million of sports funding to assist clubs in getting ready to operate under the new restrictions.
 

Brisbane Experiences Coldest Day in May for 40 years

On Friday May 22nd Brisbane went through it's coldest day for May in forty years.

With temperatures in the low teens, the Weather Bureau reports the drop in temperature is from the cold blast of air coming in from the southern states in combination with cloudy skies. Brisbane's last coldest day of May hasn’t been experienced since 1980 reaching 17.9C.
