Johnson and Johnson Payout

The Federal Court has ordered US pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson to payout almost two point six million dollars in compensation, as a result of a large-scale class action.

Three Australian women received the payout in response to complications caused by faulty plastic implants.

The implants are intended to reinforce the pelvic floor, however poor manufacturing processes and negligence left many women experiencing chronic pain and damage to surrounding organs.

44 Million Euros Dedicated to Malaria Research

The European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership has granted PAMAfrica research consortium led by Medicines for Malaria Venture forty-four million euros to aid in the development of new malaria treatments.

Equivalent to over seventy-four million Australian dollars, the grant will support the development of a portfolio of projects executed under the umbrella of the PAMAfrica research consortium over a period of five years.

TeacherFX Encouraging Teachers to Head to Farms

Teachers from across southern Queensland and northern NSW are being encouraged to step out of the classroom and into a paddock with a unique learning opportunity to learn from Australia’s most tech-savvy and progressive farmers.

The Teacher Farm Experience Program or TeacherFX allows teachers to learn about the latest agricultural technology and sustainable production.

Woolworths Limits Toilet Paper Consumption

Woolworths is placing a limit of four packets of toilet paper per customer in response to the recent reports of coronavirus in Australia.

The fear of a pandemic has caused people to panic and buy cautionary supplies.

A statement from Woolworths says this limit will help shore up stock levels as suppliers ramp up local production and deliveries in response to higher than usual demand.

QUT Rite of Passage Exhibition Opening this Saturday

The Queensland University of Technology Art Museum is preparing for its upcoming exhibition launch this Saturday. 

The exhibition, titled Rite of Passage, features artists’ responses to the significance of events surrounding conflicts during Captain James Cook’s arrival on Australian soil two-hundred-and-fifty (250) years ago.

The open day features panel discussions and talks with exhibition curator, Shannon Brett. 

Big Gay Day is Back

This coming Sunday the 8th, Big Gay Day will be coming back - spicier than ever. 

The street party will be taking over the Wickham, to raise funds for various LGBTQI+ charities such as The Queensland Aids Council, Brisbane Pride and Open Doors Youth Service.

Last year's event raised over $40,000 and saw 2,800 people attend. 

This year's event will have over 40 LGBTQI+ performers - including Spice Girls Melanie C, and Electric Fields.
