Crackdown on stores selling fake indigenous artwork

The Office of Fair Trading will be investigating over a dozen Brisbane souvenir stores over the sales of fake Indigenous artwork.

 

The investigation is to ensure stores are not misleading consumers about the authenticity of Indigenous artwork.  

 

The crackdown comes in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games to ensure tourists are supporting Australia’s Indigenous art community.

Dachshund comes back to life weeks after pronounced dead

A dachshund has come back to life following her death from a venomous snake bite at her home in Valdora, north of Brisbane.

 

Portia was rushed to her local vet two weeks ago and was pronounced dead, a week later she walked out happy and alive, as if nothing had happened.

 

Doctor Daniel Capps, who saved Portia’s life called it a miracle, saying that snake bites in cats and dogs are horrible and that they often don’t go well.

Scientists could remove the pain that follows chemotherapy

Scientists have succeeded in turning off the pain that often accompanies chemotherapy in animal models.

 

Chemotherapy induced neuropathic pain is a side effect that appears as tingling or numbness in the hands and feet and shooting pains in the limbs.

 

However, this advance may help develop drugs to treat chemotherapy pain.

Mark Zuckerberg denies invitation to testify in British Parliament

Mark Zuckerberg has refused an invitation to testify before the British Parliament.

 

Facebook’s chief executive denied attending the British parliamentary committee into the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

 

The company says it will instead send one of the deputies to London as he has the expertise to answer questions on the complex subject.

NRMA wants P-platers to be rewarded with free license and registration

The NRMA believes that P-platers should be rewarded for good driving with a free license and registration.

 

A report by the NRMA says rewarding P-plate drivers who have a clean record with a free license and a saving of $180 should encourage safe driving. It was also recommended that free registration should be offered to p-platers who drive five-star cars.

 

Top speeding areas have been named in Brisbane

School Road, The Gap, Windermare Avenue, Sinnamon Park and Chandos Street, Wynnum West have been identified as the top speeding spots in Brisbane.

 

Council data shows some motorists exceed speed limits by forty-four percent and Lord mayor Graham Quirk has announced a six point seven million dollar investment into a speed awareness campaign.

Shorten has no interest in changing asylum seeker policy

Labour will continue to turn back the boats if Bill Shorten has his way, as he has “no interest” in changing the current asylum seeker policy.

 

Although discussion will be open at the party’s conference in the middle of the year, Mr Shorten says the current policy has been effective and as such will support the Turnbull’s deterrence regime.

 

But, New Labour federal MP, Ged Kearney is promising she will argue for more humane conditions for refugees, saying “I think getting people off Manus and Nauru needs to be a priority.”

10 year old boy decapitated on waterpark ride

A 10 year old boy has been decapitated at a Texas waterpark and part   owner, Jeff Henry has been arrested on murder charges.

 

Mr Henry and designer John Schooley were charged with reckless second degree murder following an indictment saying that the ride creators' calculations were off and that they knew it,

 

This follows as an investigation found a further 13 injuries occurred during the 182 days the ride was operational, including 2 concussions and a 15 year old girl who became temporarily blind during the ride.

Man released after 24 years for a crime he didn't commit given old job back

A chicago man who spent twenty-three years in jail for crimes he did not commit has been released.

 

Nevest Coleman was exonerated after DNA evidence cleared him of a rape and murder which happened in 1994.

 

His old employer, Major League Baseball team, the Chicago White Sox has since given Mr Coleman his groundskeeping job back at their stadium.
