More than 80 per cent of locals oppose a plan to introduce 45 poker machines at the Pig 'n' Whistle in Indooroopilly.

Greens MP for Maiwar Michael Berkman, who conducted the survey, says the plan is increasing the likelihood of convenience gambling.

Mr Berkman says only 30 per cent of locals were aware that the pokies were being installed.

Nail Gun Accident Hospitalises Worker

A Hervey Bay man has been flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital after accidentally firing two nails into his skull.

The construction worker was standing on a ladder when he slipped and lodged the 30 millimetre nails into his skull.

Paramedics say he was alert when flown in and is currently in a stable condition.

45 Libyan militia have been sentenced to death by firing squad over the deaths of dozens of Tripoli rebels.

 

Libya has struggled to restore peace since the rebel regime began in 2011, when residents of the Abu Salim district of Tripoli took to the streets to prematurely celebrate the capital nearing liberation before the militia opened fire upon them.

 

A further 54 men were given 5 year jail terms relating to the demonstrator deaths.

Not boredom that caused 40 to overdose in Connecticut

More than 40 people have overdosed in a Connecticut park on a drug suspected of being laced with Opiates, Police say.

 

Police arrested a man on Wednesday who is suspected of being connected to some of the drugs that caused the overdoses, NBC News Connecticut reported.

Officials believe the individuals may have taken doses of K2, a synthetic drug marketed as being similar to marijuana.

 

There have been no fatalities reported over the incident, but some of the individuals are in critical condition, officials say.

Parents are running out of time to vaccinate their children if they want to avoid having their family support payments cut under the Turnbull Government’s No Jab, No Pay rules.

 

The Department of Human Services has written to about 130,000 families whose immunisation records were not up to date.

Those who fail to respond by the deadline will have their Family Tax Benefit payments reduced each fortnight for every child not vaccinated, providing a constant reminder for parents to keep their children’s immunisation up to date.
