March For Our Lives protestors fight for tighter gun control
Thousands of protesters have taken to streets across the United States over the weekend in a protest for stricter gun control laws.
The March For Our Lives movement came about after 17 students were shot and killed at a high school in Parkland, Florida last month.
Singers Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and Lin Manuel-Miranda performed in front of the U.S Capitol Building to offer support to the survivors and the victims families and friends.
Cyclone Nora sparks flash flooding
Residents in far north Queensland are bracing for more heavy rainfall today after ex-tropical Cyclone Nora.
Emergency services crews have received more than 100 callouts for help and went through 10 tonnes of sand during flash flooding in the Cairns and Port Douglas region.
Bureau of Meterorology (BOM) forecaster Harry Clarke says severe weather warnings for heavy rainfall were in place for the north tropical coast, Tablelands and the Gulf country with some areas to the north of Cairns recording more than 500 millimetres of rain in 24 hours.
GOMA opens largest exhibition by Australian artist
Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art has opened their largest-ever exhibition by an Australian artist, showcasing genetically-modified human-pig hybrids.
Patricia Piccinini's Curious Affection exhibition opened in Brisbane on Saturday featuring fields of more than 3000 flower sculptures as well as 70 other sculptures, photographs, videos and drawings.
It is the first time in five years that the entire GOMA ground floor has been handed over to a single artist.

Millions of workers are missing out on superannuation or failing to gain enough superannuation to secure a decent retirement, sparking calls for the entire system to be overhauled.
By law, employers in Australia must pay superannuation to any employee who earns more than $450 a month but 1 million workers in Australia are classed as independent contractors, and are mostly ineligible for compulsory superannuation.
Passengers stranded in Stuttgart as pilot found drunk before takeoff
More than 100 passengers were stranded at Stuttgart airport after a co-pilot was found drunk in the cockpit just before takeoff.
Police entered the cockpit and found the 40-year-old man in a “highly intoxicated condition” on Friday evening. Stuttgart prosecutors immediately suspended the copilot’s flying licence and fixed bail of €10,000 (£9,000).
The German news agency DPA reports that all 106 passengers were accommodated at hotels on Friday night.

Steve Smith suspended by ICC
Australian Cricket captain Steve Smith has been suspended by the ICC for one Test and fined his entire match fee over the ball-tampering scandal.
The punishment came after both Smith and vice-captain David Warner were stood down from their positions for the remainder of the third Test against South Africa.
Bancroft has also been fined 75 per cent of his match fee and issued three demerit points.
Shopping centre blaze in Siberia kills 37
At least 37 people have died in a fire in a shopping mall in the Siberian city of Kemerovo, Russia.
News agencies said more than 100 people were evacuated from the complex, which contains cinemas, restaurants and shops.
There was no immediate indication of the cause of the fire. Kemerovo is a coal-producing region 3,600 kilometres east of Moscow.
Former Catalan president detained
Former leader of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, has been detained in Germany, according to his lawyers.
Puigdemont was held after crossing the border from Denmark to Belgium, after a European arrest warrant was recently reactivated against him.
Mr Puigdemont had been living in self-imposed exile in Belgium since last October's banned referendum that backed Catalonia's bid for secession from Spain.
Australian dog food recalled
An Australian dog food brand has voluntarily recalled some of their products after numerous dogs fell ill with megaesophagus.
Mars Petcare Australia says that the recall is a “precaution”, urging customers to return all Advance Dermocare dry food three, eight and fifteen kilogram bags for a full refund.
The recall came about after dogs with megaesophagus had been euthanized in Victoria and South Australia with the brand stating they will work to get to the bottom of the issue as soon as they can.
